Hanyang Securities Achieves Record-Breaking Performance in 21 Years
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Seon-ae] Hanyang Securities recorded its best performance since 1999 last year. This was thanks to the performance growth across all sectors, including Investment Banking (IB), bonds, trading, and brokerage.
On the 17th, Hanyang Securities announced that its net profit for the year increased by 107% compared to the previous year, reaching 45.9 billion KRW, and operating revenue rose by 54% to 477.1 billion KRW. The net profit achieved a triple-digit growth rate for the second consecutive year, marking the best overall performance in 21 years since 1999.
Specifically, operating revenue from the proprietary trading division increased by 51% year-on-year to 346.3 billion KRW, and the IB division, including real estate project financing (PF), jumped 73% to 95.9 billion KRW. The brokerage division also improved its performance due to increased trading volume amid the rising stock market, recording a 67% increase to 15.2 billion KRW compared to the previous year.
The recruitment of personnel is cited as a turning point for Hanyang Securities to emerge as a strong small-to-medium securities firm. The number of employees at Hanyang Securities, which was only 229 in 2018, has now increased to about 340. Additionally, the organizational structure, which was composed of 10 headquarters and 19 teams, was reorganized at the end of last year into 1 division, 14 headquarters, and 45 departments. The IB Sales Headquarters was elevated to the IB Headquarters, with the addition of the Financial Markets Department and the IB Solutions Center under it.
