Hyundai Construction Develops Smart Integrated Inspection System 'Q-Pocket'
The Industry's First Real-Time Quality Management System via Mobile/Web
[Asia Economy Reporter Kangwook Cho] Hyundai Engineering & Construction announced on the 17th that it has developed a smart integrated inspection system called ‘Q-Pocket’ that enables real-time quality management via mobile and web, and will apply it to field operations.
‘Q-Pocket’ is the first smart integrated inspection system in the industry to perform real-time on-site quality management through mobile/web, covering everything from inspection plan establishment to structural work, finishing work, and subsequent defect management. The defect management system, which allows real-time identification and status checking of subcontractors by work type and automatic inspection notifications, is patented (Patent No. 10-1959459).
Hyundai Engineering & Construction has moved away from the traditional ‘on-site confirmation ▶ office movement ▶ report writing ▶ face-to-face approval’ method and established a non-face-to-face (Untact) & paperless system for overall construction quality management using an ‘online approval system’ and ‘automatic notifications’.
The previous method involved simple repetitive and inefficient tasks such as printing/signing/scanning/transmitting documents at each step, making it difficult to grasp the current status and to secure digital data such as videos. In contrast, ‘Q-Pocket’ allows data such as videos/photos to be shared immediately with the site office and supervisors via mobile in real time, and procedures such as approvals proceed non-face-to-face, enabling quick responses. This can save about 40% of the existing work time, allowing practitioners to spend more time managing and supervising construction sites, which is expected to lead to increased work efficiency and improved site quality.
Additionally, ‘Q-Pocket’ can be used by all construction stakeholders including subcontractors, supervision teams, and clients. Subcontractors can expect high execution competitiveness by preventing defects such as omissions and installation errors through systematic inspections, reducing failure costs and improving work efficiency. Supervision teams and clients can also manage and supervise construction efficiently without time or space constraints, greatly contributing to defect prevention and customer satisfaction.
