Gwangyang City Holds Final Report Meeting for Comprehensive Natural Disaster Mitigation Plan Establishment Project
Over 550 Billion Won Invested in Natural Disaster Risk Reduction Projects in Hazard Zones Over the Next 10 Years
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] Gwangyang City announced on the 17th that it held the ‘Final Report Meeting on the Establishment of the Comprehensive Plan for Natural Disaster Reduction’ on the 15th at the committee meeting room, attended by Mayor Jeong Hyun-bok, heads of relevant departments, and team leaders.
The Comprehensive Plan for Natural Disaster Reduction is the highest-level disaster prevention plan established with a 10-year goal to prevent and reduce natural disasters such as typhoons, floods, heavy rains, and heavy snow. It completed a public hearing with residents last December and is awaiting the city council’s opinions and final approval from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.
The comprehensive plan consists of structural and non-structural measures for nine types of disasters (rivers, inland water, slopes, sediment, wind, coasts, heavy snow, drought, and other disasters).
The contents include 109 structural measures (535 billion KRW), such as the ‘Okgok Singeum Flood Damage Living Zone Comprehensive Maintenance Project’ to prevent flooding of low-lying residential and agricultural areas caused by poor drainage and insufficient stormwater pipe cross-sections during heavy rains, and 8 non-structural measures (15 billion KRW), including the ‘Reestablishment of Basic River Plans’ for rivers requiring revision of their basic plans.
This comprehensive plan will be used as a basic plan to minimize risks from flood and wind damage and to secure national funding in the future, aiming to create a safe Gwangyang.
