[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] LG Uplus announced on the 17th that it will exclusively live stream the idol musical "On Air - Secret Contract," featuring a full lineup of K-pop stars, through the 'IdolLive' mobile app and IPTV.
"On Air - Secret Contract" is a work jointly invested and produced by musical production company Synthwave and LG Uplus, marking LG Uplus's first investment in the content sector as part of its new business initiatives this year. The story revolves around a prickly and arrogant idol DJ and a writer who knows his secret. The cast includes Super Junior's Ryeowook, Sandara Park, Lee Jin-hyuk, VICTON's Kang Seung-sik, Golden Child's Hong Joo-chan, and PD Yoo Sung-mo, who directed tvN's "SNL Korea," participated in the production.
LG Uplus will exclusively live stream the 70-minute musical performance at 7:30 PM on the 20th at the Gwanglim Art Center in Seoul via IdolLive. Performances starting at 7:30 PM daily can be watched on IdolLive until the 18th of next month.
The work will be exclusively broadcast and can be viewed for free by anyone regardless of their telecom provider. The IdolLive app can be downloaded from app markets such as Google Play Store, Apple App Store, and One Store. U+tv customers using UHD2 or UHD3 set-top boxes can enjoy the performance bigger and more vividly on their TV through the 'U+tv IdolLive' IPTV app.
Through this work, LG Uplus expects to generate revenue from overseas live streaming, video-on-demand (VOD) sales, OST and DVD sales. Going forward, LG Uplus plans to select competitive intellectual property (IP), partner and invest with excellent production companies to secure content suitable for service and platform differentiation. They will also develop content production capabilities and discover various revenue models.
Lee Sang-jin, head of LG Uplus's content business division, said, "We decided to invest in content not only because of the passion and talent that the trending K-pop idols and stars will showcase in 'On Air - Secret Contract,' but also for the fans eagerly waiting to see the artists on stage. LG Uplus will continue active collaboration with capable production companies and agencies to secure content competitiveness."
