Why Does Each Office in Dongjak-gu Office Smell So Fragrant with Flowers?
Relay Campaign Promoting Office Flower Use with 1 Table 1 Flower Initiative... 73 Flower Shops Participating, 25 More Than Last Year, Boosting Consumption in District Offices, Public Institutions, and Private Companies
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] According to the Flower Distribution Information System, due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic and the cancellation of various events, the Yangjae-dong flower market (based on cut flowers) saw a 22.9% decrease in auction amount and an 8.36% decrease in transaction volume in January this year compared to the same month last year.
In response, Dongjak-gu (Mayor Lee Chang-woo) is promoting the ‘1 Table 1 Flower’ office flower lifestyle relay to revitalize the flower industry, which has been stagnant due to COVID-19, and further invigorate the local economy.
Last year, the district office, all employees of the community service centers, and public libraries in the area participated in the ‘Use Flower Shops Every Tuesday’ campaign, purchasing flowers from a total of 48 flower businesses to promote consumption and provide psychological and emotional stability to visitors.
Notably, this year, the number of participating flower businesses increased significantly from 48 to 73, and private companies also plan to actively join the flower consumption promotion relay campaign.
Kim ** (61, female), who runs a flower shop in Sangdo-dong, said, “Since last year, the district’s purchase of flowers and potted plants to support flower businesses has greatly helped with promotion and increased customer visits. It was difficult with the tough economy and COVID-19, but I am grateful for the support to revitalize flower consumption.”
The purchased flowers (and potted plants) are placed in offices, such as at customer service desks and meeting tables, with the message ‘Make Office Flowers a Lifestyle, Support the Flower Industry!’ to create a bright and cheerful office atmosphere.
Jung **, a clerk working at the district office (28, female), said, “The office is filled with the scent of flowers, so all employees can spend their day in a good mood. I hope spring, blooming with flowers, will come to the local economy and everyone’s daily lives.”
The list of supported flower businesses in the area can be found on the district office website (Our Dongjak → News → Announcements).
