View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Kum Boryeong] Ahead of next month's by-election, Oh Se-hoon, the People Power Party's candidate for Seoul mayor, strongly expressed his stance on unification, saying that a 'three-way race' would be a certain defeat. He also predicted that an agreement could be reached on the polling questions, which have been cited as a stumbling block in the unification process with Ahn Cheol-soo, the People's Party candidate.
On the 15th, Oh appeared on BBS Radio's 'Park Kyung-soo's Morning Journal' and stated, "There was a slight difference between 'suitability' and 'competitiveness,' but both are now within the margin of error, so it seems unlikely that unification will fail because of that."
Oh continued, "Both candidates have fully delegated their negotiation rights to the working negotiation teams," adding, "I believe they will resolve it wisely." The working negotiation teams of Oh and Ahn ended their meeting on the 12th without reaching an agreement amid raised voices. Since then, both candidates have stepped in over the weekend, and the tense atmosphere has calmed down. The working negotiation teams from both sides will continue negotiations at 11 a.m. today.
Oh said, "I specifically asked the three members of our party's working negotiation team to respond flexibly and share opinions to ensure the success of the unification negotiations."
Oh also showed strong determination regarding unification. He said, "We have agreed to unify by the 19th and register the candidate, and I firmly believe that the agreed-upon polls on the 17th and 18th will be implemented. I think a three-way race must be avoided at all costs. A three-way race is a certain defeat; unification of the opposition is essential. This is a consensus formed with (Ahn)," he emphasized.
