The district plans to ensure that all residents, without exclusion, can use Bonghwasan as a space for health and relaxation through this project.
The Bonghwasan barrier-free forest trail will be made of wooden decks without obstacles such as stairs or curbs. The entire route will have a maximum slope of 8.3%, making it gently inclined and easily accessible for people with disabilities, pregnant women, the elderly, and anyone else.
This project will be carried out in two sections for easy access from anywhere. Section 1, scheduled for completion in June, is 1.6 km from Bongsudae Park behind Jungnang-gu Office to the summit, where observation decks and rest areas will be installed for residents to comfortably rest.
Section 2, expected to be completed in December, is 1.52 km from Mukdong Infant Forest Experience Center to the summit. It will connect with the existing footpath and the Infant Forest Experience Center to improve accessibility and allow children to freely experience nature.
Additionally, LED lighting will be installed for nighttime visitors, and one wheelchair charger will be provided so that electric wheelchair users can visit without worrying about power depletion.
The wheelchair charger can charge two electric wheelchairs simultaneously and also inflate tires.
Ryu Gyeong-gi, Mayor of Jungnang-gu, visited the barrier-free forest trail currently under construction and said, “Walking the barrier-free forest trail, I found the gentle slopes and absence of stairs made it easy to enjoy like a stroll. Once the entire 3.12 km route connecting Sinnae-dong and Mukdong is completed, I hope residents can climb to the summit of Bonghwasan and soothe their weary hearts from COVID-19 while enjoying the open views.”
