Hong Jun-pyo: "Presidential Election Clock Shifts from Lee Jae-myung to Yoon Seok-youl... Let's Watch the Flow of Public Sentiment"
[Asia Economy Reporter Heo Midam] On the 14th, Hong Joon-pyo, an independent lawmaker, pointed out that former Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol recently ranked first in support for the next presidential election in various opinion polls, saying, "How much disgust must there be toward this administration for the people to place their hopes on former Prosecutor General Yoon rather than the opposition party that cannot play any role?"
On the same day, Hong posted on his Facebook, "Over the past two years, the clock for the next presidential election has rapidly moved from Hwang Kyo-ahn, former leader of the United Future Party (now People Power Party), to Lee Nak-yeon, the Democratic Party's standing election committee chairman, then to Lee Jae-myung, governor of Gyeonggi Province, and now to former Prosecutor General Yoon," he said.
He added, "The time flowing from Governor Lee to former Prosecutor General Yoon has become even faster," and "As the next presidential election approaches, the waves of the election will flow faster and more rapidly."
He continued, "Although it is still premature to predict what kind of wave will come, one year is still a very long time," and said, "Let's watch how the public sentiment flows in the two major by-elections that will indicate the direction of the next presidential election."
Additionally, Hong said, "Looking at Presidents Roh Moo-hyun and Moon Jae-in, it seems even the president of this small country must be born with heavenly fortune (天運)," and added, "It is still unclear who will be blessed with such fortune and become the next leader, but in any case, I hope my country, the Republic of Korea, will not deteriorate any further as it is now."
Earlier, a poll released on the 12th showed that Governor Lee and former Prosecutor General Yoon tied for first place in support for the next presidential election.
According to a survey conducted by Gallup Korea from the 9th to the 11th among 1,003 people aged 18 and older, Governor Lee's support dropped by 3 percentage points from last month to 24%. Former Prosecutor General Yoon rose by 15 percentage points to 24%, tying with Governor Lee. Committee Chairman Lee rose by 1 percentage point to 11%, ranking third.
