Kenya Strengthens Restrictions Including Night Curfew Amid COVID-19 Surge
[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] Kenya has extended regulatory measures such as a nighttime curfew due to an increase in COVID-19 cases.
On the 13th (local time), according to local media, Uhuru Kenyatta, President of Kenya, announced in a national address the previous day that the nationwide nighttime curfew (10 PM to 4 AM) would be extended for 60 days. He also announced a ban on all political gatherings for 30 days.
Raila Odinga, the leader of the main opposition party who had recently held frequent political meetings, is currently undergoing treatment after being infected with COVID-19.
President Kenyatta limited gatherings such as funerals and weddings to a maximum of 100 people and restricted attendance at various religious facilities to one-third of their capacity.
