Expected New Local Income Source with Effects on Suppressing Symptoms like Dementia
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] The Sancheong Sericulture Agricultural Cooperative in Sancheong-gun, Gyeongnam (Chairman Kang Yong-su) has become the first in Korea to receive HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) certification for its 'Hongjam' processing facility.
On the 12th, according to Sancheong-gun, Gyeongnam and the Sancheong Sericulture Agricultural Cooperative, the cooperative's Hongjam processing facility recently passed the HACCP certification audit conducted by the Korea Food Safety Management Certification Institute.
HACCP is a certification system based on the Food Sanitation Act and the Livestock Products Sanitation Control Act. It is a system that scientifically analyzes potential hazards in the food manufacturing process and blocks and manages them in advance.
The Sancheong Sericulture Cooperative passed the audit not only for insect-processed products related to Hongjam but also for other processed products, solid and liquid teas, and fruit and vegetable beverage items. Accordingly, various juices and powders, including the existing product of pills, will be safely and strictly managed and sold according to HACCP standards.
'Hongjam' refers to cooked mature silkworm pupae that are steamed and freeze-dried just before the silkworms (sukjam) fully mature and spin cocoons. Hongjam is a new name for mature silkworm pupae decided through a public contest, meaning 'silkworms that benefit humans with broad and diverse functionalities.'
Hongjam contains various functional components including protein, amino acids, and omega-3 fatty acids. Research results show that consistent consumption of Hongjam can reduce fatty liver and fibrosis, preventing cirrhosis. In particular, recent studies by the Rural Development Administration and Hallym University have revealed preventive effects against Alzheimer's dementia, drawing significant attention.
Chairman Kang Yong-su said, "As consumers' interest in healthy foods grows day by day, we will strive to quickly understand customer demands," adding, "We will do our best to grow into a leading company in the sericulture industry by manufacturing healthy foods that consumers can trust and safely consume."
