Hwasun-gun Promotes Mandatory Disaster Insurance Enrollment for Rural Lodgings
[Hwasun=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Ji-woon] Jeollanam-do Hwasun-gun (Governor Gu Chung-gon) announced on the 12th that it is promoting the 'Mandatory Subscription to Disaster Compensation Liability Insurance' for rural lodging business operators in the area.
Disaster compensation liability insurance is insurance that compensates for bodily injury or property damage to others caused by fire, explosion, collapse, etc., and more than 20 types of businesses such as lodging facilities, rural lodgings, restaurants, and apartment complexes are required to subscribe mandatorily.
In particular, rural lodging business operators were newly included as mandatory subscribers due to the revision of related laws in December last year.
The county plans to intensively promote the mandatory subscription so that all rural lodging business operators in the area can subscribe to the insurance.
According to related laws, those who have registered as rural lodging business operators must subscribe to the insurance within 30 days after registration, and if they started business before the enforcement date of the law revision (December 10 last year), a special grace period applies, allowing subscription until June 9.
Unlike general fire insurance, which compensates the insured for property damage caused by fire, disaster compensation liability insurance also covers bodily injury and property damage to others caused by fire, explosion, collapse, etc.
The insurance premium varies depending on the area of the target facility. It is usually set at about 20,000 KRW annually based on 100㎡.
Bodily injury is compensated up to 150 million KRW per person without limit on the number of people per accident, and property damage is compensated up to 1 billion KRW. It also covers no-fault accidents such as unknown causes, making it insurance that can protect both rural lodging business operators and users in case of unexpected accidents.

A county official said, “We plan to actively promote so that all lodging business operators can subscribe to the insurance,” and added, “Since a fine of at least 100,000 KRW and up to 3 million KRW can be imposed if not subscribed, please be sure to subscribe within the period.”
