View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] Jung Young-ae, Minister of Gender Equality and Family, will attend the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) to introduce the government's achievements in women's policies and gender equality policies.
On the 14th, the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family announced that Minister Jung will attend the '65th United Nations Commission on the Status of Women,' held for two weeks from the 15th at the UN Headquarters in New York, USA, as the government's chief representative.
The United Nations Commission on the Status of Women is a functional commission under the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), where representatives from various countries, international organizations, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) gather annually to share policy cases for improving the status of women and seek effective policy implementation measures. It consists of a total of 45 member countries, including South Korea. The agenda for this meeting is 'Participation of women in public sector decision-making processes and elimination of violence for gender equality and women's empowerment.'
During the meeting, Minister Jung will participate in ministerial roundtables and general discussions to present the government's various policy efforts and achievements. On the morning of the 16th (local time), she will chair presentations and discussions among ministerial panelists from various countries on the theme of 'Creating an environment to activate women's participation in decision-making processes' at the ministerial roundtable.
In the afternoon, as a keynote speaker in the general discussion, she will emphasize that the government has actively pursued follow-up measures at the national level after the 4th World Conference on Women and the 23rd Special Session of the UN General Assembly, and introduce various women's policy initiatives such as increasing women's representation, expanding women's participation in decision-making processes and economic activities, and strengthening responses to violence against women.
While introducing government policies from a gender-sensitive perspective, she will present the government's gender equality and women's empowerment policy cases, including ▲ plans to enhance women's representation in the public sector ▲ support centers for victims of digital sex crimes. She will also announce plans to strengthen policy efforts to respond to discrimination experienced by women, such as implementing recovery measures for the COVID-19 women's employment crisis and reinforcing emergency care support systems.
On the afternoon of the 17th, Minister Jung will also attend a side event of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women co-hosted by South Korea, Sweden, the World Bank, and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). The Commission on the Status of Women will adopt a 'consensus conclusion' containing recommendations on key agenda items and close on the 26th.

Minister Jung said, "Gender equality is facing new challenges due to the global spread of COVID-19," adding, "Through the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women, we will review the progress made so far and jointly seek ways to practically resolve discrimination faced by women in the current crisis and advance gender equality."
