Damyang-gun Achieves Honor as 'Excellent Institution' for Rapid Execution in Second Half of Last Year
Evaluation of 243 Local Governments Nationwide... Special Grants of 40 Million Won, Jeollanam-do's 22 Local Governments Ranked 4th in Execution Performance Securing 100 Million Won
[Damyang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] On the 11th, Jeollanam-do Damyang-gun announced that it achieved the remarkable feat of ranking 4th in the Jeollanam-do evaluation following its selection as an excellent institution in the Ministry of the Interior and Safety’s final evaluation of rapid local finance execution in the second half of last year.
Accordingly, the county plans to utilize 40 million won in special grants from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and 100 million won in subsidies from Jeollanam-do as financial incentives for projects benefiting the residents.
Damyang-gun actively promoted financial execution to revitalize the stagnant local economy, resulting in the execution of 514.1 billion won (81.65%) out of a total budget of 626.9 billion won, and in the consumption and investment sectors, 90.5 billion won, which is 179% of the target amount of 50.6 billion won, was executed.
To this end, the county formed a rapid execution promotion team led by the deputy county head, held bi-monthly performance reporting meetings by department to continuously monitor issues, thoroughly reviewed the progress of major projects, established customized promotion plans for timely project implementation, and continuously encouraged financial execution.
Despite facing worsening financial conditions and a stagnant local economy due to the double hardships of COVID-19 and heavy rain damage last year, the county made various efforts to overcome the crisis, including pursuing expansionary financial management to stabilize residents’ lives and recover from flood damage.
County Governor Choi Hyungsik said, “This evaluation result is the outcome of actively and efficiently promoting financial execution to overcome such a crisis situation,” and added, “We will continue to concentrate all our capabilities on rapid financial execution in the first half of the year to serve as a catalyst for the recovery of the depressed Damyang economy.”
