Suspected Case of Highly Pathogenic AI at a Laying Hen Farm in Naju, Jeonnam
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-joo] A suspected case of highly pathogenic avian influenza (AI) has been reported at a laying hen farm located in Naju, Jeollanam-do, prompting quarantine authorities to conduct detailed inspections.
The Central Avian Influenza Countermeasures Headquarters (CAC) announced on the 10th that after receiving a suspicious report of poultry deaths at the farm, tests conducted by the livestock quarantine agency detected the H5 type AI antigen.
Detailed testing is currently underway, and the determination of whether it is highly pathogenic is expected within 1 to 3 days.
The CAC has restricted access to the farm and is conducting an epidemiological investigation. Additionally, preemptive quarantine measures such as movement restrictions, surveillance, and testing will be implemented for farms within a 10 km radius.
A CAC official urged, "Poultry farmers must disinfect all areas of the farm, vehicles, people, and equipment, and strictly follow basic rules such as changing boots and disinfecting hands when entering the poultry houses."
