Suncheon Citizens Practicing Neighborly Love Through Various Goods and Cash Donations
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Suncheon City (Mayor Heo Seok) announced on the 10th that a continuous stream of citizen donations is ongoing at the Gwunbun Store.
Upon hearing that the store temporarily closed last month due to depletion of prepared supplies, Suncheon citizens donated goods and cash worth approximately 60 million KRW within about 20 days to overcome difficulties together with their neighbors.
About 50 organizations, companies, and ordinary citizens participated in the donations, including Suncheon Farmers' Association with 7 million KRW, Lilac Volunteer Group with 4 million KRW, Gongil Logistics with 3 million KRW, and G&C with 3 million KRW. City hall officials also contributed goods and cash worth about 3 million KRW through collective small donations.
An elderly woman from Hakseo Village in Byeollyang-myeon, who came to use the Gwunbun Store, was inspired to donate 50 bundles of water parsley she personally cultivated. Similarly, an elder from Gyedang Village in Haeryong-myeon donated 50 bags of multicolored rice he farmed himself, among various other donated items.
A citizen who participated in the donation said, “The news that supplies were quickly depleted indicates that many citizens are facing difficulties, which moved me to join the donation.” He added, “I hope more citizens will look around during these tough times and share hardships with their neighbors.”
The Suncheon Gwunbun Store is a shop where citizens struggling with livelihood due to COVID-19 can take daily necessities free of charge. It is operated through voluntary donations from citizens, and as of the 9th, about 3,900 citizens have used the store.

Meanwhile, Suncheon City is operating a visiting Gwunbun Store service that delivers goods to neighbors with mobility difficulties by receiving applications through eup, myeon, and dong administrative welfare centers. Since the 5th, it has delivered goods worth about 21 million KRW to 750 people.
