"Forgotten in a Month or Two... If You're Jealous, Just Change Jobs" Outrage Over LH Employee's Controversial Remark
"On the 28th floor, can't hear you, so sweet" LH employee mocks protest in front of headquarters
[Asia Economy Reporter Heo Midam] Amid growing suspicions of speculation by Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) employees in the 3rd New Town projects in Gwangmyeong and Siheung, Gyeonggi Province, an online user presumed to be an LH employee has sparked public outrage by posting a message saying, "I will continue to work until retirement while speculating under a borrowed name."
On the 9th, an anonymous worker community called "Blind" saw a post titled "Nobody cares internally" by a user presumed to be an LH employee named A.
A wrote, "Everyone thinks that after a month or two, people will forget and it will pass like water flowing. I think the same," adding, "Even if you investigate, everything was done under borrowed names (for the new town land purchases), so how could you find any evidence (of speculation)?"
He continued, "No matter how angry (the public) gets, I will diligently speculate under borrowed names and comfortably work until retirement," and sarcastically added, "This is the benefit and welfare unique to our company. If you're jealous, just transfer to our company."
Finally, A criticized, "Those who couldn't get in (to LH) because they weren't good at studying are now picking on us and attacking us."
Netizens who saw this criticized, saying, "The moral hazard among public officials is at a serious level." One netizen expressed outrage, saying, "It's unbelievable how shameless they are even after committing crimes," and "I didn't realize corruption in public institutions was this severe. I feel hollow beyond anger."
On the 8th, another user presumed to be an LH employee named B caused controversy by mocking citizens' rallies related to land speculation suspicions.
B took photos of citizens gathered in front of the LH headquarters' PR center and Land and Housing Museum in Jinju, Gyeongnam, and posted them. Along with the photos, he mocked the protesting citizens, saying, "Since it's the 28th floor, (the noise from the protest) can't be heard at all. So sweet."
At that time, about 50 farmers affiliated with the National Farmers' Federation and the Busan-Gyeongnam Federation held a press conference and protest at the LH headquarters. Especially after it was revealed that over 98% of the land purchased by LH employees and their families was farmland, the farmers expressed anger, saying, "LH should change its name to Korea Farmland Speculation Corporation."
