"Nurses Overworked Due to COVID-19... Government Urged to Establish Ward Staffing Standards"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] The Medical Solidarity Headquarters of the Public Transport Union of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions and the Acting Nurses Association held a press conference in front of Sejong Center for the Performing Arts on the 7th, urging the government to establish nursing staff standards for COVID-19 wards considering patient severity and labor intensity.
They stated, "Nurses endured an overwhelming number of patients during the COVID-19 situation, but nothing has changed even after a year," adding, "When patients surged, one nurse sometimes cared for up to nine patients, and nurses were hastily dispatched from general wards to COVID-19 wards."
They said, "Now, we do not want to face patients being moved around without any standards or plans," demanding an increase in nursing staff and the legislation of the number of patients per nurse.
