Opposition Recommends Kim Young-jong of 'Dialogue with Prosecutors' for Corruption Investigation Office Personnel Committee
[Asia Economy Reporter Geum Bo-ryeong] The People Power Party has recommended lawyer Kim Young-jong and former acting president of the Seoul Bar Association Yoo Il-jun as members of the High-ranking Officials' Crime Investigation Commission (PCC) Personnel Committee.
On the 5th, the People Power Party announced that it had decided to recommend Kim Young-jong, co-representative lawyer of the law firm Homin, and Yoo Il-jun, former acting president of the Seoul Bar Association, as members of the PCC Personnel Committee.
Lawyer Kim, who served as the head of the Anyang branch of the Suwon District Prosecutors' Office, has worked at the Seoul, Chuncheon, Changwon, and Suwon District Prosecutors' Offices.
In 2003, while serving as a prosecutor at the Suwon District Prosecutors' Office, Kim raised suspicions of a request from the late former President Roh Moo-hyun during the 'Dialogue with Prosecutors' organized by the late President Roh. At that time, former President Roh responded, "At this point, you want to do whatever you want, right?" Kim ended his prosecutorial career in 2017 as the head of the Anyang branch and also served as the chairman of the Central Ethics Committee of the Liberty Korea Party.
Yoo, a former prosecutor, served as the head of the Pyeongtaek branch and as the Secretary for Public Discipline in the Blue House's Office of Civil Affairs during the Park Geun-hye administration. Last year, he served as a member of the Future United Party's nomination management committee.
The People Power Party explained, "We judged that they are the right candidates to operate the Personnel Committee so that the PCC can investigate crimes of high-ranking officials with political neutrality and without interference from power."
