Gwangju City Promotes 'Gwangju-type Energy Transition Pilot Village' Project
Recruitment of Participating Coalitions Until the 22nd... Selection of Support Targets by the End of March
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Metropolitan City and the International Climate Environment Center Foundation announced on the 5th that they will promote the ‘Gwangju-type Energy Transition Pilot Village’ project to practice citizen-centered energy transition and energy saving.
The energy transition village is a village that converts the energy consumed in the village into renewable energy centered on the energy transition base center, and practices energy saving and efficient use.
Since declaring the ‘2045 Carbon Neutral Energy Self-Reliant City’ in July last year, Gwangju City has collaborated with civic groups such as the Gwangju Social Innovation Platform, Chonnam National University, and the Gwangju Lifelong Learning Promotion Foundation to train personnel who will lead energy transition movements at the village level.
Based on this, the International Climate Environment Center Foundation signed a consignment agreement on the 8th of last month for ‘Establishment and Activity Support of Energy Transition Village Base Center,’ and from this month, launched a public contest to implement the ‘Gwangju-type Energy Transition Pilot Village’ project to promote energy self-reliance at the village level.
Various coalitions (networks) among organizations within the village can apply for this contest, and the supported villages will be selected through document and on-site evaluations within this month.
The selected villages will establish implementation plans through expert consultation and education, develop the ‘Gwangju-type Energy Transition Village’ model, and promote specialized projects for each village.
In December, when the project ends, each village will present its achievements, providing an opportunity to spread the results of the five pilot villages to other regions.
Coalitions wishing to participate in the project can download the application form from the Gwangju City website and the International Climate Environment Center website by the 22nd, fill it out, and submit it by mail or visit to the International Climate Environment Center, or send it by email.
Detailed information can be found on the Gwangju City and International Climate Environment Center websites, and related inquiries can be made to the Carbon Neutral City Research Support Team at the International Climate Environment Center.
