"South Korea's Largest Fresh Logistics Center" Market Kurly Opens Gimpo Logistics Center
The Largest Fresh Logistics Center in Korea with a Total Area of 82,644㎡ (25,000 Pyeong)
Including Existing Centers, Capable of Processing Twice the Current Daily Average of 90,000 Orders
Efficiency and Productivity Increased through Optimal Automation, Expanding Logistics Base to the West
[Asia Economy Reporter Yuri Kim] Market Kurly announced on the 2nd that it has opened a logistics center in Gimpo. It is the largest among domestic fresh logistics centers, and is intended to operate a logistics system prepared for more than double growth each year.
The Market Kurly Gimpo logistics center spans a total area of 82,644㎡ (25,000 pyeong), making it the largest fresh logistics center handling food products in Korea. It is equipped with ambient, refrigerated, and frozen centers according to the optimal temperature for the products. It operates at 1.3 times the total operational area including the four centers previously operated, such as the Jangji center in Seoul.
The new Gimpo logistics center introduced appropriate automation to consider workers while increasing productivity. A Quick Picking System (QPS) was implemented to minimize the movement paths for transporting and sorting products and simplify tasks, installing conveyors that allow products to move directly to the sorting staff’s stations. After automatically sorting products by each order, the packaging process can continue immediately in parallel layout, enabling packers to package without additional movement. This minimization of movement reduces worker fatigue and increases concentration, thereby improving productivity. The automation system at the Gimpo logistics center was built in collaboration with LG CNS.
While the existing Jangji logistics center adopted the DAS (Digital Assorting System) method that processed 200 orders collectively, the Gimpo center’s automation allows real-time processing of each order, providing greater flexibility to handle large fluctuations in orders by day and time. The logistics base, which had been concentrated in the southeastern region, was expanded westward to improve delivery efficiency. Market Kurly stated, "With the operation of the Gimpo logistics center, we expect to handle about twice the current average daily order volume of 90,000 orders."
Kim Seul-ah, CEO of Market Kurly, said, "We opened the Gimpo logistics center to provide better service to the 7 million customers who have grown with Market Kurly and to those who will use Market Kurly in the future," adding, "We will take another leap forward through the Gimpo logistics center."
