Jeju's First COVID-19 Vaccination Begins... 3,193 People in Nursing Hospitals and Facilities
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters (Jeju) Reporter Park Chang-won] Jeju Special Self-Governing Province announced that starting from 9 a.m. on the 26th, vaccination with the AstraZeneca vaccine began for 70 people at one nursing hospital and 80 people at two nursing facilities in the Jeju area, who are the first-dose COVID-19 vaccination targets.
The total first-dose vaccination targets include 9 nursing hospitals and 27 nursing facilities, with vaccinations expected to be completed sequentially by the 18th of next month.
The current first-dose vaccination targets are a total of 3,193 residents and workers under the age of 65 at nursing hospitals and nursing facilities.
The first-dose vaccine allocation for the Jeju area is 3,900 doses, which is more than the number of targets, and these arrived at Jeju Port around 6 a.m. on the 25th and have been transported and stored at public health centers and nursing hospitals.
The remaining doses after the first vaccination will be used for the second dose.
The estimated total vaccination target in Jeju for the first quarter is 9,819 people.
After vaccinating residents and workers at nursing hospitals and nursing facilities, vaccinations will be administered to 3,551 high-risk medical institution workers, 889 first responders to COVID-19, and 2,186 workers at COVID-19 treatment hospitals.
In the second quarter, vaccinations will proceed in order for residents and workers at COVID-19 vulnerable facilities, medical institution workers, and elderly people aged 65 and over.
General adults aged 19 to 64 are scheduled for the third quarter.
At 9 a.m. on the same day, Deputy Governor Go Young-kwon inspected the vaccination progress and encouraged officials at ‘Jeonghyowon’ located in Doryeon 1-dong, Jeju City, where vaccinations began.
Deputy Governor Go said, “Vaccination is an important first step toward forming herd immunity,” and added, “We will thoroughly manage the vaccination process to increase the vaccination rate among general adults scheduled for the third quarter this year with the trust of residents, so that our daily lives can recover quickly.”
Yang Eun-kyung (49), a nursing caregiver who received the first COVID-19 vaccine at Jeonghyowon that day, said, “At first, I was very nervous and anxious, but I got vaccinated for the end of COVID-19.”
Nursing caregiver Ahn Yoo-jung (54), who completed vaccination, said, “It was my first vaccination in Jeju, so I was nervous and scared, but I got vaccinated with a strong conviction that we can overcome COVID-19 through vaccination.”
Jeonghyowon nursing facility protects 134 residents (110 in general rooms, 24 in dementia-specialized rooms) with 79 staff members.
Among the 73 vaccination targets under 65 years old, 70 were vaccinated on-site at the facility, and 3 are planned to be vaccinated later at the public health center.
Jeju Governor Won Hee-ryong visited the Jeju Public Health Center, where vaccine doses arrived at 6 a.m. on the 25th, to check the COVID-19 vaccination preparation status and urged thorough vaccine storage and management.
