On the 24th, the province held a COVID-19 vaccination simulation drill at the Central Region Vaccination Center and checked the preparation status for Pfizer vaccine administration.
The vaccination center, set up at the indoor badminton court in Cheonan, plans to vaccinate healthcare workers at COVID-19 treatment institutions first with the Pfizer vaccine, which will be introduced next month.
Pfizer must be stored and distributed at an ultra-low temperature of minus 70 degrees Celsius. To meet these conditions, the province completed the installation of an ultra-low temperature freezer for storing the Pfizer vaccine at the vaccination center on the 17th.
The simulation drill involved about 100 participants, including vaccination officers from four cities and provinces in the Chungcheong region, local city and county vaccination officers, and related agency officials, recreating the actual vaccination process.
When the vaccine transport vehicle arrived on site, the process of receiving and handing over the vaccine, storing it in the ultra-low temperature freezer, recording, thawing, diluting, and storing the vaccine was simulated to reflect real situations.
The province also conducted training for emergency responses in case of adverse reactions in vaccine recipients, including hypersensitivity reactions in the observation room, transfer to emergency treatment rooms, emergency care, and patient transport.
Based on this, the province plans to improve operational guidelines and the structure of vaccination centers to ensure that the entire vaccination process can be organically carried out on site.
Yang Seung-jo, Governor of Chungnam Province, said, "The simulation drill is an important test to check the progress of vaccine administration throughout the Chungcheong region," adding, "We will ensure that vaccination centers can serve as hubs to share and educate vaccine administration data and know-how with each city and county."
Meanwhile, starting from the 26th, Chungnam will prioritize vaccinating about 13,000 workers and users of local nursing facilities with the AstraZeneca vaccine.
