Excessive 'Towing Nutrient' Content Across Gyeongnam... What Are the Solutions?
Recommended Appropriate Fertilizer Application After Fertilizer Prescription Through Nearby Agricultural Technology Center
According to last year's survey, the excess rate of exchangeable calcium was the highest at 99%. This was followed by potassium at 85% and available phosphorus at 84%, with overall high excess rates measured.
View original image[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Saeyan] The Gyeongsangnam-do Agricultural Research and Extension Services has reported that soil nutrients in facility cultivation areas within the province are excessive, urging the need for customized soil management tailored to each farm.
Since 2004, the Agricultural Research and Extension Services has been conducting chemical property variation surveys, including soil fertility and pH, every four years at the same 200 locations in facility cultivation areas.
According to last year's survey results, the excess rate of exchangeable calcium was the highest at 99%.
Following that, the excess rates of exchangeable potassium were 85%, available phosphorus 84%, and exchangeable magnesium 79%, showing generally high excess levels. This is believed to be due to continuous over-fertilization since 2004.
When crops are cultivated in soil with excessive nutrients, overall nutritional imbalance can delay crop growth, and photosynthesis may not proceed properly, raising the possibility of reduced yield and quality.
Experts recommend using compost with low phosphorus content to prevent this, and that the free lime-based fertilizers provided should only be used in appropriate amounts on soils with a pH below 6.5.

A researcher from the Agricultural Research and Extension Services stated, "If you request soil analysis at the comprehensive testing laboratory of the local Agricultural Technology Center, you can receive fertilization prescriptions for each crop," adding, "By utilizing this well and applying only the appropriate amount of fertilizer, safe and high-quality agricultural products can be produced."
