Seunghee Woo, Jeonnam Provincial Assembly Member, Receives 'Korea Local Government Legislative Award'
Honored as Double Winner of Legislative Awards Representing Socially Vulnerable Groups
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Jun-kyung] Woo Seung-hee, a member of the Jeonnam Provincial Assembly (Democratic Party of Korea, Yeongam 1), received the 'Grand Prize' at the '2020 Korea Local Government Legislative Awards' ceremony hosted by the Korean Local Government Association held at Korea Maritime and Ocean University on the 19th.
This award is significant as Councilor Woo achieved a 'double crown' by winning the Encouragement Award for Excellent Ordinances from the Korean Local Autonomy Association and the Legislative Award from two prestigious academic societies in the field of local politics.
The Korean Local Government Association, established in 1989, includes over 1,000 participants such as professors and researchers in local government administration and policy, public officials above the level of section chief, local government heads, and local council members. The Korea Local Government Legislative Award recognizes exemplary local council members who contribute to local autonomy and regional development.
An official from the association stated, "Councilor Woo has excellently performed legislative, resolution, oversight, and resident representation functions, and has made significant contributions to the development of local councils and local autonomy through outstanding legislative activities and dedicated efforts for community development."
Councilor Woo said, "I believe this is the result of consistently engaging in field activities to listen to and reflect the voices of those who have nowhere else to turn for their difficulties," adding, "I will do my best to create a local government where residents are the true owners through unwavering efforts."
Meanwhile, Councilor Woo Seung-hee played a major role in strengthening the status of the local council while serving as a member of the 10th Jeollanam-do Provincial Assembly and served as the Chairperson of the Education Committee in the first half of the 11th Assembly. Currently, she is actively engaged in legislative activities emphasizing policy changes in Jeonnam education centered on students.
