The Anti-Corruption and Economic Crime Investigation Unit was upgraded from the existing Intelligent Crime Investigation Unit to a chief superintendent-level investigation unit (Chief, Chief Superintendent Ryu Sam-young) and was organized into 2 divisions and 10 teams in the annex building of the city police agency.
Starting with a total of 54 members, it will focus on eradicating public official corruption crimes, public crimes, financial crimes, economic crimes, and other offenses that harm the everyday economy of ordinary citizens.
As the scope of crimes subject to direct prosecution by the prosecution has been significantly reduced, significant cases such as fraud and embezzlement, which were mainly handled by the prosecution, have been transferred to police jurisdiction, and the unit will handle intelligence and preliminary investigation cases or cases with high social interest that are difficult for general police stations to manage.
In particular, to respond to the organized and indiscriminate occurrence of telephone financial fraud, the Busan Metropolitan Police Agency will focus on tracking and arresting call centers that act as breeding grounds for voice phishing crimes.
It will also intensively crack down on everyday fraud crimes such as jeonse (long-term lease) and employment fraud, which cause many victims by taking advantage of difficult economic conditions such as COVID-19.
The Violent Crime Investigation Unit has been expanded and reorganized from the existing Metropolitan Crime Investigation Unit (Chief, Chief Superintendent Park Jun-kyung) and will start with 4 divisions, 15 teams, and a total of 97 members on the 3rd floor of the city police agency.
It plans to be responsible for arresting metropolitan-level violent crimes such as robbery and theft, organized violence, drugs, and international crime suspects.
It will focus on cracking down on serious violent cases, organized crime group involvement cases, blocking illegal drug distribution, and intensive crackdowns on foreign resident organized crimes and illegal entry/exit international crimes, as well as everyday surrounding violence and intrusion robbery and theft crimes that harm daily life.
