[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] President Moon Jae-in's approval rating for his administration remained in the 40% range for the second consecutive week. However, there was a significant decline among the moderate political group and those in their 30s.
According to a poll conducted by Realmeter commissioned by YTN from the 15th to the 19th, President Moon's approval rating (positive evaluation) was recorded at 40.6%, down 0.7 percentage points from the previous week, the agency announced on the 22nd.
The negative evaluation, indicating "doing poorly," rose 1.4 percentage points to 56.1%, while the "don't know/no response" category decreased by 0.7 percentage points to 3.3%. The gap between positive and negative evaluations was 15.5 percentage points, which is outside the margin of error.
During the survey period, major issues included the conflict and resignation offer between Shin Hyun-soo, Senior Secretary for Civil Affairs at the Blue House, and Park Beom-gye, Minister of Justice, as well as the controversy over Chief Justice Kim Myung-soo's resignation.
These issues contributed to a significant drop in the president's approval rating among those in their 30s and the moderate political group.
By ideological inclination, the positive evaluation of the president's performance among moderates fell from 42.5% last week to 34.0%, a drop of 8.5 percentage points. By age group, the approval rating among those in their 30s decreased by 5.9 percentage points to 40.3% compared to the previous week.
Regionally, Seoul's approval rating dropped 2.9 percentage points to 38.6%, and Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam saw a 1.0 percentage point decrease to 34.9%.
Regarding party support, the People Power Party led the Democratic Party of Korea by 0.2 percentage points, which is within the margin of error.
The Democratic Party's support rate fell 1.4 percentage points from the previous week to 31.6%, while the People Power Party's support rose 0.7 percentage points to 31.8%.
Notably, in Seoul and Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam, where by-elections will be held in April, the People Power Party led in party support.
The People Power Party's support in Seoul increased by 2.5 percentage points to 32.6%, and in Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam, it rose by 1.2 percentage points to 36.1%. Conversely, the Democratic Party's support in Seoul and Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam dropped by 2.2 and 2.4 percentage points, respectively, to 29.5% and 25.6%.
Meanwhile, the People's Party's support rose 1.2 percentage points to 7.9%, while the Open Democratic Party and the Justice Party each fell by 0.7 and 0.6 percentage points to 6.0% and 4.7%, respectively.

This survey contacted 58,045 voters aged 18 and over nationwide, with a final response of 3,010 people, resulting in a response rate of 5.2%.
