North Korea Requests Other Countries to Use 'President' Title for Kim Jong-un
[Asia Economy New York=Correspondent Baek Jong-min] It has been reported that North Korea requested other countries to change the foreign language translation of Kim Jong-un's official title to the English word "President."
The Russian Embassy in North Korea stated on Facebook on the 19th (local time), "Recently, the Protocol Department of the North Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs informed us through an official letter about the foreign language translation usage for 'Chairman of the State Affairs Commission of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.'"
The official letter used the title "President" instead of the previous "Chairman" for Kim Jong-un's position.
North Korea's Korean Central News Agency also reported in English on the 17th that Kim Jong-un visited the Kumsusan Palace of the Sun in Pyongyang to commemorate the birthday of his father Kim Jong-il ("Day of the Shining Star"), translating his title as "president of the State Affairs."
The news agency is known to have changed Kim Jong-un's title to this form starting from the 11th of this month. Kim Il-sung, Kim Jong-un's grandfather, also used "President" as his English title during his lifetime.
The National Intelligence Service explained at the National Assembly Intelligence Committee on the 16th that Kim Jong-un's English title has been changed internationally to "President."
