[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dae-yeol] SK Energy and the Korea Environment Corporation under the Ministry of Environment signed a business agreement on the 19th for "creating social value through emission inspection and fine dust reduction campaigns."
According to this agreement, emission measurement equipment will be installed at SK gas stations to provide free emission inspection services to refueling customers. Starting in March, customers who wish to have their vehicles inspected can receive the service at SK gas stations in the Seoul metropolitan area and Gangwon region. Promotional campaign videos for installing emission reduction devices on old vehicles will be played on the self-service fuel pump screens at gas stations. The videos will be produced by the Corporation. Additionally, the Corporation will send inspection recommendation notices to owners of old vehicles and post announcements on its website to help activate this emission inspection service.

The company expects that this service will contribute to reducing fine dust by preventing vehicles that exceed emission standards from operating. Drivers are also expected to reduce instances of being fined on-site by undergoing inspections in advance. Kang Bong-won, head of SK Energy’s Central Business Division, said, "We will strengthen ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management execution and establish various eco-friendly business models based on gas stations."
