Hwasun-gun Completes Hanium Boxing Gym... The Only One in Jeonnam
[Hwasun=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Ji-woon] Jeollanam-do Hwasun-gun (Governor Gu Chung-gon) announced on the 19th that it completed the ‘Hanium Boxing Gymnasium’ on the site next to the Lee Yong-dae Gymnasium last October, investing a total project cost of 2.4 billion KRW (30% national funds · 70% county funds).
The Hanium Boxing Gymnasium, built on a scale of 990㎡, is the only boxing-dedicated gymnasium in Jeollanam-do.
The gymnasium consists of two rings meeting international competition standards, spectator seats with a capacity of 172, a fitness room, training rooms, locker rooms, and a referee waiting room. To enhance audience concentration, a large electronic scoreboard and video system for matches were installed in the arena.
In addition to basic exercise equipment such as sandbags, various training aids including a body composition analyzer are prepared so that athletes can focus solely on training.
Following the Lee Yong-dae Gymnasium, the construction of the Hanium Boxing Gymnasium is expected to further elevate the reputation in badminton and boxing.
Since this year, the county sports council has affiliated the Jeollanam-do Sports Council boxing team under the county sports council and is responsible for training.
The sports council boxing team consists of a total of nine members: seven male athletes including two candidates, one manager, and one coach. Park Gu, the director of Cheonsa Gymnasium in Hwasun-eup, and former athlete Park Ji-seon serve as the manager and coach, respectively, guiding the athletes.
The boxing team includes many promising athletes who are medal contenders in national competitions, such as Kim Ji-woong in the heavyweight division, Lee Min-seong in the bantamweight division, and Choi Ji-woong in the middleweight division.
Starting with the Association President’s Cup held next month in Cheongyang, they will participate in the President’s Cup, Jeonnam Sports Festival, National Sports Festival, and others. Particularly, strong performances are expected at the national boxing team selection competition to be held in November.
To operate the boxing team, the Jeollanam-do Sports Council subsidizes the annual salaries of five athletes, while the county is responsible for accommodation, operating expenses, and training.
Fifteen boxing team athletes from Jeonnam Technical Science High School and Hwasun Middle School in the region also participate in the boxing team training. They are dedicating themselves to training at the boxing gymnasium with the goal of selecting representative athletes and winning medals.
