Goheung-gun Officially Begins Construction of Donggang Small-scale Multipurpose Gymnasium
20 Billion KRW Investment, 2-Story Building with 854㎡ Total Floor Area, Scheduled for Completion in August
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Goheung County (Governor Song Gwi-geun) announced on the 19th that the 'Donggang Small-scale Multipurpose Gymnasium Construction Project,' aimed at revitalizing community sports and promoting health for residents in the northern region, has officially commenced construction.
The multipurpose gymnasium construction project is planned to be built on a 2-story building with a total floor area of 854㎡ within the complex cultural center area in Yudun-ri, Donggang-myeon. The total project cost is 2 billion KRW (1 billion KRW from national funds and 1 billion KRW from county funds), with completion targeted for August this year.
Inside the gymnasium, facilities for volleyball, basketball, and badminton will be installed, along with restrooms and shower rooms. Stage equipment, sound, and lighting facilities will also be set up to host various small-scale events.
The county stated, "Since the project was confirmed in 2019, it has undergone local finance investment review and shared property committee deliberation and approval. Last year, approval for land use was obtained from the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, and all administrative procedures including detailed design services were completed. Songam General Construction Co., Ltd. was selected as the contractor, and construction has begun."

Governor Song Gwi-geun said, "Once the Donggang multipurpose gymnasium is built, it will resolve a long-standing issue for northern region residents who have been unable to benefit from various event hosting and community sports activities due to the lack of sports facility spaces." He added, "We expect that the construction of the multipurpose gymnasium will improve residents' quality of life by promoting health and increasing sports and cultural activities."
