"I Was Taken to the Rooftop" IU's Bittersweet Confession Revealed Late
[Asia Economy Online Issue Team] Recently, the school violence issue that started in the volleyball world has extended to the entertainment industry, causing controversy. In this context, a video in which singer IU confessed to being a victim of school violence has been gaining renewed attention.
IU revealed the school violence incident in 2020 on her YouTube channel 'IU TV.' At the time, while filming behind-the-scenes footage for the music videos "Rooftop Come Follow Me!" and "Eight," IU was asked by a staff member about the phrase "Come follow me to the rooftop!" The staff asked, "Have you ever been to the rooftop when you were young?" IU responded with a bitter expression, confessing, "I was dragged there a few times."
IU explained the situation at the time, saying, "When I was riding my bicycle and playing with friends, older students in school uniforms threatened me with their bicycles and demanded money. I was in elementary school and didn’t have any money." She continued, "They took my bicycle and threatened me, saying, 'Hey, how much money do you have?' They threatened me as if they were going to lift a motorcycle, and that’s how they took my money."
