The report meeting was organized to discuss securing feasibility for attracting public institutions at the Geochang-gun level in preparation for the government and Gyeongnam Province's public institution relocation policy, as well as revitalizing the local economy and creating an innovation ecosystem linked to public institutions.
The research institute conducting the study presented Geochang-gun's strengths as key factors for the location of public institutions, including ▲industry-academia-research innovation ecosystem infrastructure ▲excellent accessibility to the metropolitan area ▲administrative hub city of northwestern Gyeongnam ▲nationwide recognition for premium educational environment ▲abundant historical, cultural, ecological, and tourism resources.
As discussions on relocating public institutions are expected to intensify once the COVID-19 pandemic enters a stabilization phase, fierce competition among local governments to secure sites is anticipated. In response, Geochang-gun has proactively selected a total of 10 candidate sites for public institutions, including general and specialized types, and plans to respond preemptively to the relocation of public institutions.
Gu In-mo, the mayor of Geochang-gun, stated, "From the perspective of population increase and future growth engines, attracting public institutions is set as the top priority of county administration. We will establish and promote a comprehensive support strategy including land provision, securing related infrastructure, and presenting support measures."
Additionally, a county office official expressed the opinion that "Regarding the discussion on relocating the Gyeongnam Talent Development Institute, northwestern Gyeongnam should be included from the perspective of regional balanced development, and recent matters related to the Southeast Mega City should also proceed considering the regional public sentiment of northwestern Gyeongnam."
