Gwangju City Expands Conversion of Children's School Vehicles to LPG Cars
Support of 2.35 Billion Won for 235 Units at 7 Million Won Each
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 18th that it will expand the 2021 support project for converting children's school commute vehicles to LPG vehicles to protect the health of children vulnerable to air pollution such as fine dust and to improve the urban air environment.
The support target is owners or prospective registrants of children's school commute vehicles who purchase new small LPG vans for children's school commute while scrapping diesel vehicles registered in the jurisdiction.
Gwangju plans to invest 1.65 billion KRW to support a total of 235 vehicles at 7 million KRW each.
In particular, this year, the subsidy support target will include cases where new small LPG vans for children's school commute are purchased regardless of whether the existing diesel vehicle in operation is scrapped.
The application period is from the 22nd until the budget is exhausted, and to prevent the spread of COVID-19, applications will not be accepted in person but only by registered mail.
For more details, please check the announcement on the Gwangju city website.

Na Hae-cheon, head of the city's Air Quality Conservation Division, said, "Since diesel vehicles emit more nitrogen oxides (NOX), which are causes of fine dust, compared to LPG vehicles, we ask for active participation in the support project for converting children's school commute vehicles to LPG vehicles to protect the health of children vulnerable to fine dust and to improve air quality."
