[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST) is set to activate joint research on industrial accident medical care in collaboration with Ulsan City and the Korea Workers' Compensation and Welfare Service.

The three institutions signed a "Joint Research Agreement on Industrial Accident Medical Care" on the 17th at 4 p.m. in the medium conference room on the 6th floor of the university headquarters. This agreement was promoted to strengthen the research capabilities of a specialized public hospital for industrial accidents to be established in Ulsan in 2025.

Through the agreement, the three institutions will promote joint research in the rehabilitation field and cooperate to support related matters. Specifically, collaboration will proceed on discovering joint research projects, developing core technologies, verification, and clinical trials among the UNIST Smart Healthcare Research Center, the Rehabilitation Medicine Research Center of the Korea Workers' Compensation and Welfare Service Incheon Hospital, and the Rehabilitation Engineering Research Institute.

President Lee Yong-hoon said, "We plan to create the best research center in Korea in the fields of industrial accidents and rehabilitation until the specialized public hospital for industrial accidents opens," adding, "We will support this by securing excellent researchers centered on the Department of Biomedical Engineering."

Since February, UNIST has launched and operated the "Industrial Accident Specialized Smart Healthcare Research Center (Director Cho Hyung-joon)" for research in the industrial accident field. The center plans to expand its phased projects aimed at developing and verifying core technologies related to industrial accidents, including prevention, diagnosis, rehabilitation, and big data analysis through medical AI.
