Road Traffic Authority Converts 'Emergency Vehicle Traffic Safety Education' to Non-Face-to-Face Training
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-joo] The Korea Road Traffic Authority announced on the 18th that it will switch the emergency vehicle traffic safety education from the existing offline group training to non-face-to-face online training using the Authority's e-learning center starting this year.
Emergency vehicles refer to vehicles used for urgent purposes, such as fire trucks, ambulances, and blood supply vehicles. Since 2018, drivers of these vehicles have been required by the amended Road Traffic Act to receive mandatory traffic safety education.
The Authority had been conducting offline training at education centers nationwide, but after temporarily suspending group training last year due to COVID-19, it decided to transition to online education.
The training is divided into new and regular sessions. New traffic safety education is a 3-hour course for drivers receiving emergency vehicle training from the Authority for the first time. Regular traffic safety education is conducted every three years as a refresher course and lasts for 2 hours.
Applications for the training can be made through the Korea Road Traffic Authority e-learning center (https://trafficedu.koroad.or.kr). The tuition fees are 18,000 KRW for new training and 12,000 KRW for regular training.
