The donation ceremony held at the Seoul Army Officers' Club was attended by Nam Young-shin, Chief of Staff of the Army, and Lee Dong-woo, CEO of Lotte Holdings. Lotte plans to donate a total of 11 Cheongchun Chaekbangs this year to support the dreams and futures of young soldiers.
Since 2016, Lotte has been conducting the Cheongchun Chaekbang project in cooperation with the Army Headquarters and the Salvation Army. Cheongchun Chaekbang is a project that creates a self-development environment in the form of a reading cafe where soldiers stationed at the front-line GOP and coastal outposts, who have difficulty enjoying cultural benefits, can comfortably read books and spend their rest time. So far, Lotte has supported a total of 57 Cheongchun Chaekbangs, including 51 in the Army and 6 in the Air Force, and plans to open 68 Cheongchun Chaekbangs in military units by this year.
The Cheongchun Chaekbang, made by utilizing two container units, consists of bookshelves stocked with about 1,000 books, a study room space equipped with sofas and personal reading desks, a language listening and music appreciation zone, and a cozy resting area with cafe tables. An ‘E-Library’ environment was created by providing electronic book devices (e-books) to make it easier to read the latest books.
