Gimcheon-si Provides 'Emergency Support' to Transportation Industry and Businesses Under Gathering Ban... Allocates Own Reserve Funds
Corporate Taxi and Charter Bus Companies and Drivers Receive 500,000 Won Each, 1,000,000 Won Support for Closed Businesses
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Dong-wook] Gimcheon City, Gyeongbuk Province (Mayor Kim Chung-seop) announced on the 17th that it will urgently allocate 350 million KRW from contingency funds to provide its own disaster relief funds to transportation industry workers and businesses under gathering bans who are struggling due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic.
First, for corporate taxi drivers, considering fairness with individual taxi industry workers who received government support funds, the city decided to additionally provide 500,000 KRW on top of the 500,000 KRW government income stabilization fund that was supported before the Lunar New Year holiday.
Corporate taxi companies in the jurisdiction will also receive 500,000 KRW per taxi operated. The support targets are 131 taxis and 123 drivers from 4 corporate taxi companies, with a total support amount of 127 million KRW.
Additionally, registered charter bus transport operators and drivers affiliated with charter bus companies in the area will each receive 500,000 KRW for livelihood stabilization. The support targets include about 8 companies and 113 drivers, with a total support amount of 113 million KRW.
Along with this, in accordance with strong government policies, businesses under gathering bans that are struggling to maintain their livelihoods will receive 1 million KRW each. The support targets are 144 businesses that complied with gathering ban measures from December 24 last year to February 14 this year. The total support amount is approximately 144 million KRW.
Mayor Kim Chung-seop of Gimcheon said, "Although this support measure may not be sufficient to resolve the difficulties on the ground, I hope it brings some comfort and hope to small business owners and transportation industry workers enduring this particularly harsh winter," and promised, "We will provide additional support according to the government's 4th disaster relief fund plan during the supplementary budget formulation."
