Expansion of Emergency Welfare Support for Crisis Households in Gangdong-type
Building a Robust Welfare Safety Net Through Active Service Support Responding to the Needs and Demands of Vulnerable Households
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gangdong-gu (Mayor Lee Jeong-hoon) is expanding the 'Gangdong-type Emergency Welfare Support' project to respond to various crisis situations faced by low-income households that were not supported by existing welfare systems.
Last year, through the 'Gangdong-type Emergency Welfare Support' project, the district provided three services to a total of 113 households: ▲ Comfortable dental treatment ▲ Support for moving to create a happy room ▲ Disaster support such as fire, receiving great responses from residents.
This year, the project will be expanded to build an even more comprehensive welfare safety net.
The existing Comfortable dental treatment service will be expanded to include children up to 12 years old, and four additional services will be supported: ▲ Support for fines on residents whose registration has been canceled ▲ Support for reconnection of communication services for households with suspended communication ▲ Support for single-room hospitalization fees for suspected infectious disease patients ▲ Temporary housing support for families of infectious disease quarantine cases.
The Gangdong-type Emergency Welfare Support is provided in connection with the Seoul-type Emergency Welfare and the Community Chest of Korea.
The support criteria are households with income below 85% of the median income, property below 326 million KRW, and financial assets below 10 million KRW. However, the property criterion is temporarily relaxed to below 257 million KRW until the first half of the year due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic. Applications for emergency welfare support can be made at the resident centers of each address.
