[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] University students are volunteering their talents to help small and medium-sized business owners. Why is this happening?

Students majoring in Visual Design in the Department of Creative Arts and Entrepreneurship at Silla University (President Kim Chung-seok) are attracting attention by volunteering to create Corporate Identity (CI) for small and medium-sized enterprises in the Sasang area of Busan free of charge.

Although the students are "gifting" corporate brands and images to companies for free, it also serves as a practical training ground to gain real-world experience.

This talent donation project started in 2006 and is now in its 15th year. It has been carried out for a long time to enhance the competitiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises in the Sasang area of Busan and the design capabilities of Silla University students. Silla University, Sasang District Office, and Sasang Business Development Council are jointly promoting the project.

Under the guidance of Professor Kim Dong-seok from the same department, 30 students majoring in Visual Design at Silla University created CIs for a total of 13 companies, including Vintage Ground, Agro K, and Quarantine Friends, from October last year to the end of January this year.

The Visual Design major at Silla University has conducted CI production volunteer activities every year, mainly led by third-year students. The students visited each company, interviewed stakeholders, and developed CIs with creative and fresh ideas that matched the identity of the companies.

The Visual Design major exhibited the CIs produced through this project at the gallery on the first floor of the Sasang District Office from February 1 to 5 to showcase the project's achievements.

Since small and medium-sized enterprises are concentrated in the Sasang area of Busan, it is expected that many companies will continue to receive support if this project continues. Silla University has produced CIs free of charge for about 200 companies to date.

Professor Kim Dong-seok of Silla University said, “This project is a representative regional industry-academia-government collaboration project promoted since 2006 by the university, local government, and companies working together. Companies can use the CIs created by students to enhance brand value, and students can develop practical design skills, which has been greatly beneficial to all.”
