Gyeonggi Bukbu Fire and Disaster Headquarters Independently Operates '119 Multi-Channel Reporting System' Allowing Text, Photo, and Video Reports
System Setup in January... Easy Access for Foreigners and People with Disabilities
[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] The Northern Gyeonggi Fire and Disaster Headquarters will operate an independent '119 Multi-Channel Reporting System' for the northern Gyeonggi region starting this year.
On the 16th, the Northern Fire and Disaster Headquarters announced, "To respond more quickly and actively to the rapidly increasing multi-channel reports, the system was completed on January 25."
According to the Northern Fire and Disaster Headquarters, the '119 Multi-Channel Reporting System' allows 119 reports through various methods excluding voice calls, such as Short Message Service (SMS), Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS), the 119 reporting application, and video calls.
The usage method is to send a text message to the 119 number, enabling reporting without a separate phone call. Photos or videos can also be attached. Reporting is also possible through the 119 reporting application, and the reporter's location can be accurately confirmed via GPS information.
In particular, foreigners and people with disabilities who have difficulty using landline phones can report to 119 more easily, further strengthening the social safety net.
Additionally, in large-scale disaster situations such as heavy rain or typhoons, when reporting calls surge, it can be used as an alternative reporting method.
Until now, the provincial Fire and Disaster Headquarters received all reports from 31 cities and counties and then transferred only the northern Gyeonggi disasters to the Northern Fire and Disaster Headquarters for reception and processing.
However, as multi-channel reports rapidly increased, a nationwide '119 Multi-Channel Reporting System Advancement Project' led by the National Fire Agency was promoted, leading to the separation of systems between the Gyeonggi Provincial Fire and Disaster Headquarters and the Northern Fire and Disaster Headquarters.
In fact, from the completion of the system to the 15th, the Northern Disaster Comprehensive Command Center's 119 comprehensive situation room received 1,194 reports through the multi-channel reporting system.
Among these, 38 cases led to dispatches, accounting for 45% of the total multi-channel report dispatches (83 cases) in Gyeonggi Province.
