People Power Party mourns the passing of Baek Giwan: "We will deeply cherish the late's will"
[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] The People Power Party mourned the passing of Baek Ki-wan and expressed their determination to deeply reflect on the late's will.
On the 15th, Kim Eun-hye, spokesperson for the People Power Party, stated in an oral comment, "We commemorate the late Baek Ki-wan, a great elder of South Korea's democratization movement, and extend our condolences to the bereaved family."
Baek Gi-wan, director of the Unification Issue Research Institute, passed away on the 15th after a long battle with illness. He was 89 years old.
Born in 1932 in Dongbu-ri, Jangryeon-myeon, Eunyul-gun, Hwanghae Province, he devoted himself to farmers', the poor's, unification, and democratization movements from the 1950s, participating broadly in Korean social movements.

Spokesperson Kim said, "The late did not yield to harsh oppression and devoted his entire life solely to the democracy of this country and the human rights of its people," adding, "It would not be an exaggeration to say that the equal society we enjoy today is also thanks to him."
