Daejeon 'Hongdo Underpass' Temporarily Opens on 20th... Scheduled for Completion by End of June
[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] The Hongdo Underpass in Daejeon will be temporarily opened on the 20th. This comes more than four years after the demolition of the existing Hongdo Overpass.
According to Daejeon City on the 15th, the Hongdo Overpass improvement (underground) construction began on May 31, 2017, and is scheduled to be completed by the end of June this year.
Before completion, the city will temporarily open the 'Hongdo Underpass' connecting Samsung-dong Cathedral Intersection to Hongdo-dong Yongjeon Intersection on the 20th.
With the temporary opening of the underpass on Dongseo-daero, the city expects an average of 30,000 vehicles per day to pass through, and more than 60,000 vehicles per day after full opening. It is also expected to reduce traffic congestion and facilitate traffic connections between the eastern and western regions.
Considering that construction of the underpass ramp structures and side roads will continue after the temporary opening, the city plans to ensure citizens' safe driving until the road is fully opened.
Meanwhile, the Hongdo Overpass improvement project is being promoted with a total project cost of 97.1 billion KRW, aiming to construct a total length of 1.0 km and six lanes (three lanes each way).
