UAE Mars Probe 'Amal' Sends First Mars Photos After Orbit Insertion
[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Nahum] 'Amal,' the first Arab Mars probe sent by the United Arab Emirates (UAE), has sent its first photos of Mars after entering orbit.
The UAE's Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC) announced on the 14th (local time) that Amal had sent its first images after entering Mars orbit.
MBRSC explained, "These images were taken on the 10th, the day after Amal's entry, from an altitude of 24,700 km above Mars," adding, "The scene captured the solar system's largest volcano, Olympus Mons, revealing itself in the early morning sunlight."
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Prime Minister, also posted the Mars photos sent by Amal on his Twitter on the 14th. He wrote, "These are the first Mars photos taken by an Arab world's probe."

Amal, which departed from Japan's Tanegashima Space Center in July last year, successfully entered Mars orbit on the 9th after about seven months. Amal's mission includes measuring the upper and lower atmosphere of Mars and observing and photographing the Martian surface.
