[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Park Dong-wook] During the Lunar New Year holiday, three public officials at Gunwi County Office in Gyeongbuk were consecutively confirmed positive for the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), raising an alert in the region.
According to Gunwi County on the 14th, two public officials belonging to Gunwi County Office tested positive during a full survey of employees on the same day. These confirmed cases were not included in the statistics as of midnight on the 14th.
Earlier, on the Lunar New Year day, the 12th, one public official working at Gunwi County Office was confirmed positive and is receiving treatment at a hospital in Daegu. This official, who resides in Daegu, was identified as an 'n-th generation infection' infected through household contact with a child who had already tested positive.
Following the confirmation of COVID-19 cases among public officials at the county office, Gunwi County encouraged all employees to get tested during the Lunar New Year holiday through text messages and other means.

A Gunwi County official stated, "It is understood that most employees underwent testing during the Lunar New Year holiday," adding, "Close contacts of confirmed cases have been placed under self-quarantine."
