Samsung QLED TV New Model Enhances 'Game' Features... First Application of AMD Technology
Neo QLED TV Applies AMD 'FreeSync Premium Pro' for the First Time in TV Industry
Optimized Features for Various Gaming Platforms Including Game Consoles and PCs
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyewon] Samsung Electronics will enhance gaming-related features across all QLED TV lineups in 2021.
On the 14th, Samsung Electronics announced that through collaboration with AMD, it will introduce the industry's first 'FreeSync Premium Pro' feature to its entire Neo QLED TV lineup, ranging from 50-inch to 85-inch models.
AMD's FreeSync technology reduces or eliminates input lag, screen tearing, and distortion that can occur when various gaming content from consoles or PCs is transmitted to displays such as TVs.
The AMD FreeSync Premium Pro introduced by Samsung adds HDR (High Dynamic Range) technology, which optimizes contrast, to the existing FreeSync feature, enabling smooth, tear-free gaming visuals to be played more vividly in HDR quality.
Samsung has identified that over 80% of users who play games on TVs use gaming consoles such as Microsoft's Xbox or Sony's PlayStation (PS).
AMD's FreeSync technology is also applied to gaming consoles, making it one of the essential features for users enjoying games on TVs.
As games continue to evolve, users' demand for high-quality gaming experiences has increased, and various HDR-enabled games are being released in the market accordingly.
Samsung's Neo QLED, set to be released domestically, is equipped not only with the aforementioned AMD FreeSync Premium Pro technology but also with various gaming-related features.
Samsung Neo QLED TVs offer 100% color volume and 12-bit backlight control, enabling detailed dark scenes and accurate color representation. They apply the shortest input lag time (5.8ms) for processing and displaying video signals, provide the industry's first wide game view allowing screen adjustment to 21:9, 32:9 ratios, and feature the industry's first 'Game Bar' function for easy display of gaming-related information.
Since introducing the industry's first Auto Game Mode in TVs in 2018, Samsung Electronics has accelerated the development of gaming TVs. It has also won the CES Innovation Award in the gaming category for four consecutive years up to this year.
To strengthen TV gaming technology, Samsung regularly holds internal discussions to listen to game enthusiasts' opinions and reflects them in product planning. The adoption of AMD FreeSync Premium Pro technology reflects internal expectations that TV console game content employing HDR technology will rapidly increase in the future.
The company plans to assign gaming-related tasks to game enthusiasts across development, product planning, UX, and service fields, and actively adopt creative ideas about the future of gaming on large screens if they emerge.
