This campaign, conducted more than twice a week, is carried out simultaneously throughout the city by the city government, self-governing organizations, civic groups, and volunteers working together to promote the practice of daily quarantine measures.
The five autonomous districts also rolled up their sleeves to spread the holiday atmosphere prioritizing quarantine by conducting campaigns with 1,390 participants focusing on about 280 major intersections and multi-use facilities in each district.
At the first citywide campaign held on the 10th, the day before the Lunar New Year holiday, at U-Square Plaza, Mayor Lee Yong-seop of Gwangju, along with civic groups such as the Gwangju Saemaul Association, the Council for Correct Living Movement, the Korean Freedom Federation Gwangju Branch, the Gwangju Civic Society Federation, the Volunteer Center, and the Safety Monitoring Group, participated together to mainly promote messages urging visitors and general citizens to refrain from visiting hometowns, relatives, and traveling during the holiday period.
Mayor Lee distributed leaflets to citizens that read “Rest at home this Lunar New Year,” “The best vaccine is strict compliance with quarantine rules,” “No private gatherings of five or more,” and “Have at least one family member get tested for COVID-19,” urging citizens to strictly follow quarantine guidelines during the holiday period.
