The PGA of America announced on the 10th (Korean time) that "from this year, the use of distance measuring devices will be permitted at the three majors hosted by the association." The events include the PGA Championship (May 21?24), the KPMG Women's PGA Championship (June 25?28), and the Senior PGA Championship (May 26?31). Jim Richerson, President of the PGA of America, explained, "We have always been interested in ways to improve the flow of play during championship tournaments."

He added, "The use of distance measuring devices is already common in play and is included in the Rules of Golf," noting that "players and caddies have long used distance measuring devices during practice rounds to know distances." Players and caddies must comply with Rule 4.3a(1) 'Distance and Direction Information' of the Rules of Golf. While it is allowed to use distance measuring devices to gather information about distance or direction, it is prohibited to use them to assess elevation changes or to receive assistance in interpreting distance or direction information.
