Nexon Opens Industry's First 3 Trillion Won Revenue Era (Update)
[Asia Economy Reporter Buaeri] Nexon has become the first in the gaming industry to enter the 3 trillion won revenue era.
On the 9th, Nexon announced that it recorded 3.1306 trillion won in revenue and 1.1907 trillion won in operating profit last year. Both revenue and operating profit reached all-time highs, growing 18% each compared to the previous year.
Last year's fourth-quarter revenue also set a quarterly record. Fourth-quarter revenue was 709.2 billion won, and operating profit was 166.5 billion won. These figures represent increases of 35% and 245%, respectively, compared to the previous year.
Nexon's strong performance was driven by growth in mobile games. Last year, Nexon's mobile revenue surpassed 1 trillion won, recording 1.0371 trillion won, a 60% increase from the previous year.
This achievement was led by long-term hit intellectual properties (IP) such as 'V4', as well as titles released last year including 'Baram-ui Nara: Yeon', 'FIFA Mobile', and 'KartRider Rush Plus'.
'Baram-ui Nara: Yeon' has consistently maintained a top position since its release in July last year, ranking second in Google Play's highest revenue. 'KartRider Rush Plus' also continued its success, reaching 20 million users. The resurgence of 'MapleStory M', released in 2016, is also noteworthy. Nexon successfully reversed its ranking on the two major app markets following a large-scale update in November last year.
Nexon's domestic performance is also remarkable. Revenue generated in the Korean region surpassed 1 trillion won for the first time. Revenue grew 84% year-on-year, with mobile revenue increasing by 164% and PC online revenue by 54%.
