People Power Party: "Chief Justice Kim Myeong-su Must Appear Before the National Assembly Judiciary Committee on the 17th"
"Must Clarify Not Only Judge Impeachment Deal Suspicion but Also Appointment Consent Lobbying Allegations"
[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] The lawmakers of the People Power Party's Legislation and Judiciary Committee have demanded the attendance of Chief Justice Kim Myung-soo at the National Assembly. They want him to appear at the full committee meeting to directly clarify the raised suspicions.
On the 9th, the People Power Party's judiciary committee members stated in a press release, "We demand that Chief Justice Kim personally attend the Supreme Court business briefing scheduled for the 17th at the National Assembly's Legislation and Judiciary Committee to thoroughly reveal all these 'lies' and 'suspicions' to the public."
They said, "According to Article 121 of the National Assembly Act, the committee can request the attendance of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, the Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court, the Chairperson of the National Election Commission, the Chairperson of the Board of Audit and Inspection, or their representatives to ask questions on specific matters," adding, "In particular, Chief Justice Kim has previously appeared before the National Assembly for last year's audit, so there is no reason he cannot attend if the National Assembly requests."
The People Power Party's judiciary committee members also called for cooperation from the Democratic Party. They said, "The Democratic Party should actively join the demand for Chief Justice Kim's attendance at the National Assembly," and added, "If the Democratic Party truly respects the separation of powers and is committed to protecting the independence of the judiciary, they must ensure Chief Justice Kim Myung-soo appears before the National Assembly."
