Rehabilitation School Teacher Abusing Disabled Student Fined 4 Million Won
[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Dong-hoon] A court has sentenced a rehabilitation school teacher accused of abusing a student with brain lesions to a fine.
On the 9th, Judge Kim Ho-chun of the Criminal Division 2 at the Seoul Western District Court sentenced teacher A of Yonsei Rehabilitation School, who was charged with violating the Act on Welfare of Persons with Disabilities, to a fine of 4 million won.
A was prosecuted for allegedly leaving a student with a first-degree brain lesion disability in the classroom bathroom for about 40 minutes after the student cried out loudly on September 19, 2018. It was also found that A made threatening remarks to the victim student.
The prosecution indicted A without detention in October last year, believing that A had abused the victim student.
The court stated, "The victim, who has a first-degree brain lesion disability, was unable to protect or cope with unjust abuse, and the defendant is a teacher who has the duty to supervise and protect the victim, which makes the blameworthiness significant." However,

The court added, "There is no objective evidence to recognize that the defendant repeatedly abused the victim, and it appears that the offense occurred as a one-time incident during the process of stopping the victim's crying and disciplining. Considering the defendant's admission of the offense and attitude of remorse, the sentence is determined."
